What’s New with the New Printer

As you may know, we have decided to make a change in our printing partner, and that invites a few changes to the processes and overall quality of our print products. Here are a few tips and tricks to help get the most out of your projects with our new print partner. Checking the size: With our new print partner, we will sell hardbound book slightly larger than our current offering. The Forever™ team worked with our new print partner to develop a process that proportionally scale your books – this way, nothing will be lost in transition. So, if you receive your book, and you have an extra ¼”, you’ll know why.

Setting up the cover of hardbound books: If there is content that you’d like extend right up to the edge or just a little over the edge of your cover, be sure to extend it roughly ¼” to compensate. If you choose to place your picture right at the end, you might find undesired space on your cover.

Managing dark photos: Our previous print partner made extensive use of a print feature that “bumped up” brightness in photos, but it seriously compromised the color accuracy and clarity of your photos. Photos on paper will never quite be as bright as they are on a screen due to the absence of light from the paper, so getting the best photos starts when you begin editing them in Forever Artisan® or Forever Projects™. Take a look at your photos on your computer monitor: if your photo contains a number of shadows that obscure facial features and other important parts of the photo, chances are it will be too dark when it’s printed. Shadows can play a huge part in the mood and overall tone of a photo so if you think a photo might look a bit too dark, bump it up a few percent in brightness, but don’t go too far or you could degrade the fidelity of the photo.

Watch the margins: As discussed in our previous blog post,The Anatomy of a Photobook, managing your margins is a very important part of designing any print products. Try to make sure that any pertinent materials, or things you definitely don’t want cut off, are ¼” inside of the trim line.

With our new print partner you’ll notice markedly higher photo fidelity and a finer print quality with more accurate colors. They offer a wider product range and an ability to help us grow and provide our customers with the best products available on the market. We’re committed to ensuring you have the best, and most permanent memory-keeping products available to you, and with our new printer we will provide just that - beautifully captured moments that last a lifetime.
